A couple of things to report today. Jono’s son Jacob has made contact with the family so that’s good news for a start; thanks everyone for praying. Please keep Jono and his family and Jacob of course in the forefront of your prayers today as they hopefully get more welcome news.

The second thing is that Karen received the confirmation call from YouthWorks that she has the job and will start before the end of the month. So, this is a big change and re-alignment season in more ways than one. We thank God for His provision as ever and the way the Holy Spirit simply leads.

On Sunday I was talking about the key strategies that Jesus reveals to us about the way He builds His Church (Matthew 16) and the second one I reflected on was from verse 20 where Jesus basically urges His companions to learn from the way He has discipled them. That is, declare, represent and demonstrate the kingdom of heaven daily to create a safe space within which people can clearly see who Jesus is, reconcile what that means for them and respond to that revelation with a profession of authentic faith which in Peter’s case was “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God’; a revelation that Jesus heralded as the rock upon which the church would be built.

Karen and I can testify to this reality, even as much as we are ‘surprised’ when things happen the way God promises – in His timing.  As per that second strategy from Sunday, you and I together, are to GO (for we are sent) – BE (IN Christ) – ENGAGE (as representatives of heaven in the community within which we live) – WORK (the ministry of reconciliation is the work of the Cross, creating a safe space for others to access God) – LET THE SPIRIT LEAD (don’t be frantic, simply be obedient to the vision God gave you/us, i.e. ‘stay near it’ like Philip did to the Ethiopian (Acts 8:26-40)) and be READY to activate whatever the Spirit exhorts us to do.

Easier said than done BUT it is all about Jesus work within us and not an expectation that you and I have to create or measure up to.
